The digital quest for better beer

The digital quest for better beer

Storied brands are often built, at least in part, on custom and tradition — a time-honored recipe or an age-old manufacturing process for a product, for instance. While these characteristics help brands stand out, they do not make them immune to competitive pressures. Take, for example, Carlsberg, a 171-year-old brewery group that today manages 140 beer brands and ranks as the world’s third largest brewery.

According to Carlsberg CIO Mark Dajani, the company is blazing a path toward the future by updating and building on its much-loved beer brewing techniques and traditions. Using machine learning and AI technologies, Carlsberg is pushing the frontiers of beer science, to answer questions about the behavior of yeast — a core ingredient in beermaking — over time. It has always been about brewing for a better today and tomorrow, and by building on its rich scientific heritage, the brewery group is harnessing the power of big data and analytics. Carlsberg wants to help bar owners serve up the freshest, best tasting beer consistently and improve the overall bar experience for patrons.

Carlsberg is also doing some interesting things with glue to eliminate plastic ring packaging. I volunteer our office in Sacramento as a test lab to support this customer partner! 👍🏽
